Seba Ramírez is a dynamic drummer and percussionist whose work bridges Paraguayan music, jazz, Latin American, and contemporary styles. His 2023 solo album Untied, recorded in Barcelona, pushes the boundaries of traditional percussion by showcasing a fusion of influences, from rock to free improvisation. Ramírez is recognized for his rich, cross-genre approach and his ability to weave together diverse sounds, textures, and rhythms.
Throughout his career, he has toured across South America and Europe in collaboration with a wide range of renowned artists such as Pablo Selnik, Bill McHenry, Mike Stern, Alec Orea, Carol Panesi, Jota P, Palito Miranda, Carlos Schvartzman, and Juanjo Corbalán.
Born in Salto del Guairá, Paraguay, and raised in Ciudad del Este—a city known for its multicultural blend at the border of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina—Ramírez was exposed early to diverse musical influences, shaping his eclectic sound and versatility. His international experiences have enriched his artistic expression, drawing from a broad spectrum of musical traditions.
Ramírez holds a degree from the Centro de Altos Estudios Musicales in Buenos Aires and a Bachelor of Music from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción. He earned master’s degrees: in Jazz Performance and Modern Music from the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona, and in Global Jazz from Berklee College of Music, both with full scholarships.
In addition to his performance career, Seba is an educator, who teaches in the Bachelor of Music program at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, and has published research on Paraguayan music. He also spent nearly a decade as a cultural manager and program director for the Jazz al Este Festival and the Drácena cultural space. Seba draws inspiration from artists like Paul Motian, Cuchi Leguizamón, and Hermeto Pascoal, and like these artists, has contributed to multidisciplinary projects, composing for short films and theater. His innovative approach and ability to blend diverse musical traditions position him as a leading figure in contemporary music.
